Happy Earth Day!!!

The first Earth Day in 1970 that organizers took no money from corporations and held teach-ins “to challenge corporate and government leaders.”

Earth Day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in held on April 22, 1970. Earth Day is celebrated in spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Many communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues. The first Earth Week originated in Philadelphia in 1970 (starting April 16 and culminating on Earth Day, April 22.) Earth Day Network, a group that wishes to become the coordinator of Earth Day globally, asserts that Earth Day is now observed on April 22 on virtually every country on Earth. World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5 in a different nation every year, is the principal United Nations environmental observance.

Earth Day Tip # 7...Save Our Oceans............

Most of our planet is ocean. And our ocean is in big trouble. Jacques Cousteau, whose 100th birthday is celebrated in June, said that people protect what they love.

The best way to fall in love with the ocean is to see all the glory it has to offer.
If you can not make to the actual ocean then the next best way is to see Oceans in a theater, opening on Earth Day. Let the images of walrus love, the beautiful swimming blanket octopus, spider crab orgies of extraordinary magnitude, great white sharks, orcas, humpbacks, sea turtles and dugongs feeding and waves upon waves upon waves wash over you.

The Disney Oceans team spent years patiently waiting to film, in the ocean. Be part of the ocean revolution.

Ocean Facts:

1. The Earth has one big, connected ocean. The ocean covers over 70%of the Earth’s surface, surely making this a water planet.

2. The ocean affects every human life! It supplies freshwater (most rain comes from the ocean) and nearly all Earth’s oxygen.

3. The ocean influences our planet’s weather and climate and affects human health.

4. It is estimated that 13 million pounds of litter are put in the ocean each year.

Earth Day Tip # 5................

Here are a few easy ways to conserve water.............

Run your dishwasher only when it’s full.

Limit your shower time. Even a one or two minute reduction can save you 700 gallons!

Never pour water down the drain if there’s another use for it, such as watering your plants or garden.

Set the water level in your washing machine for the size of the load.

Always water your lawn or garden during the cool time of the day (at night or early morning) to minimize evaporation.

Instead of letting the water run while cleaning your veggies rinse them in a pot with water.

Use eco-friendly car wash.

Don’t let the water run when brushing your teeth, shaving, etc.

Earth Day Tip # 3................

Learn about threats to ocean life and help take action.

Make A Wave," an inspirational duet by Hollywood Records recording artists and Disney Channel stars Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato, recorded for Disney's Friends for Change: Project Green and to be featured in the upcoming Disneynature film "OCEANS," "Make A Wave" will be available beginning March 15 on iTunes, with all proceeds benefiting environmental charities through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF). "OCEANS" hits theaters April 22, 201 (Earth Day).

With the motivating lyrics "just a pebble in the water can set the sea in motion, a simple act of kindness can stir the deepest ocean," the anthem carries the main message of Friends for Change: when people work together, small steps can add up to a world of difference. With its water theme, the song also helps to underscore the importance of protecting the world's water habitats, which make up nearly three- quarters of our planet.

"Make A Wave" is the follow-up to last year's hit Friends for Change anthem "Send It On" by Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato. To date, "Send It On" has helped raise more than $500,000 for conservation projects across the globe. A large portion of those funds is helping revitalize forests in the U.S., Latin America and Europe in collaboration with Arbor Day Foundation. Proceeds are also being directed to the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund's "Rapid Response Fund" which focuses on aiding animals affected by disasters. As a recent example, $20,000 was directed to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, a leading member of the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti, working to provide care for animals following the devastating earthquakes.

Green Easter.........

It’s always fun to celebrate Easter (especially for the kids) but the feeling of helping Mother Nature by being more eco-friendly during the holiday is a great new family tradition; you can start this year! The best thing about an eco-friendly Easter is that whole family can enjoy the greenness of the festival together and the environment will benefit too!

We Hope Everyone Had A Wonderful Easter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Easter!!!

The Easter BunnyBunny

Easter, which celebrates Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead, is Christianity's most important holiday. It has been called a moveable feast because it doesn't fall on a set date every year, as most holidays do. Instead, Christian churches in the West celebrate Easter on the first Sunday following the full moon after the vernal equinox on March 21. Therefore, Easter is observed anywhere between March 22 and April 25 every year.

Easter has always had its non-religious side. In fact, Easter was originally a pagan festival. It was co-opted by Christian missionaries starting in the second century CE. he Easter Bunny is not a modern invention. The symbol originated with the pagan festival of Eastre. The goddess, Eastre, was worshipped by the Anglo-Saxons through her earthly symbol, the rabbit.

The Germans brought the symbol of the Easter rabbit to America. It was widely ignored by other Christians until shortly after the Civil War. In fact, Easter itself was not widely celebrated in America until after that time.

The Easter Egg

As with the Easter Bunny and the holiday itself, the Easter Egg predates the Christian holiday of Easter. The exchange of eggs in the springtime is a custom that was centuries old when Easter was first celebrated by Christians.

From the earliest times, the egg was a symbol of birth in most cultures. Eggs were often wrapped in gold leaf or, if you were a peasant, colored brightly by boiling them with the leaves or petals of certain flowers.

Today, children hunt colored eggs and place them in Easter baskets along with the modern version of real Easter eggs -- those made of plastic or chocolate candy.
