Green Your School................

Another way to get your entire school involved in going green and earn money for your school or classroom.

TerraCycle runs national programs called Brigades, each of which is for a specific waste stream (like the Drink Pouch Brigade, or the Cookie Wrapper Brigade).

Each Brigade has a certain number of open locations (anywhere from 500-30,000), and local collection teams can sign up to collect. Each location earns a 2¢ donation for every piece of waste collected (sometimes we measure this by weight), and the donations go to a school or charity of that team’s choice. If the team is a school or non-profit, it is able to keep all donations earned through this program.

A collection team can be a school, organization, an office, or even a neighborhood. To start collecting, a team leader must first register on the TerraCycle site, and then create a collection team for one of the open Brigades.

    Here’s how it works:

    1. The team leader signs up online at www.terracycle.net
    2. The team leader creates a collection team
    3. Begin collecting! The team leader is immediately able to access posters and shipping materials through their TerraCycle profiles.
    4. Once you have collected the minimum pieces of waste (it varies by program), download a FREE UPS shipping label and use it to send the waste to TerraCycle via UPS.
    5. You can track your collections and donations online by signing in to your TerraCycle account.

There are more than 30,000 Brigade collection teams and millions of people involved in our Brigades. Sign up today!

Recycle your Old Crayons...........

Remember not to throw out your old broken crayons........ You can make single color crayons, rainbow colored crayons, 50/50 crayons the color possibilities are endless, so are the shapes and sizes.

Have lots of crayon stubs that are too small to hold on to? Don't throw them out! You can use them to create big, chunky crayons – and kids can help.

  1. Gather up all of your broken crayons, and cut them into small pieces. (An adult will need to complete this step.)
  2. Preheat the oven to 150 degrees.
  3. Fill the muffin tin with an inch-thick layer of crayon pieces.
  4. Bake 15-20 minutes, or until the wax is melted.
  5. Allow the tin to cool; then pop out the crayons, and they're ready for use.
Tips:
  1. If you don't have a muffin tin to devote to crayon making, you can line your regular muffin tin with foil cups.
  2. Candy and soap making molds can also be used to create fun, shaped crayons.
  3. Recycled crayons make a great no-cost gifts or party favors.

Congratulations Crayola!!!!

Powered By The Sun

With the help of 26,000 solar panels that are currently being installed at Crayola headquarters in Easton, Pa., we will be powering our factory with electricity made from the sun. On August 5, 2010 the factory will be officially "plugged in."

Products:

Crayons Made With Solar Power

  • Beginning this summer a billion crayons a year will be made using solar power. How will you know? Look for specially marked boxes of Crayola crayons.
  • During the crayon making process any chipped or broken crayons are remelted in the mixer so there is no waste.

Marker Barrels Made With Recycled Plastic

  • Crayola marker barrels and plugs are made with recycled plastic.
  • Plastic scraps from making marker casings are crushed into tiny pellets and put back into the system. There is very little waste.

Colored Pencils Made With Reforested Wood

  • All of the wood used in Crayola colored pencils comes from reforested trees.
  • For every tree used, another of the same kind is planted.
  • We do not use wood from tropical rainforests or endangered species.

    Recycled Pencils......................

    Recycled Pencils

The good old #2 pencil isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The good news is that there are now some eco choices, including Paper Mate® EarthWrite™ Recycled Pencils made from 100% recycled materials, down to the lead and eraser. If you’re in the market for something a little more fun, check out Smencils, made from recycled newspapers and infused with scents- for some scratchin’ sniffin’ writin’ fun.

    Our Favorite: Smencils

    • These deliciously scented pencils are made from rolled sheets of newspaper instead of wood—you can even see the layers of newspaper when you sharpen them
    • Recycled newspaper is tightly rolled around #2 graphite then hardened so they feel like wood pencils, but are better for the environment
    • Each pencil is soaked in a gourmet liquid fragrance for a tantalizing writing experience
