Recently I was given a premium membership for an honest review of Vocabulary Spelling City. I have never looked into Vocabulary Spelling City before, but have heard very good things about it from others. It is an educational website that allows teachers and parents to register for free and premium accounts where they can enter and save word lists. You can create spelling or vocabulary lists to help students, or import the lists already provided within the site. Having older children ages 11-15 I was afraid they might find it more unappealing or geared towards younger students. This certainly was not the case, they especially the options available for parts of speech, geography, math, and science at and above their grade levels. From a student's perspective, the games are challenging , fun, and provide instant gratification that is not always available, especially at this age level.
I like some of the key features like sharing lists, importing lists, tests, record keeping, parts of speech, games, flashcard’s, and that you can also print handwriting sheets to accompany the lessons. Vocabulary Spelling City offers a free and premium version. The free version offers a surprisingly good amount of the site. The premium version of the program is actually pretty affordable, especially if you have a larger family. You can use this premium version for up to 5 students for $29.99 per year. We have only scratched the surface at this point in time but look forward to continuing with the premium version. If you are interested in getting started today, you can go to http://www.spellingcity.com/ they are offering a free 30 day trial of the premium membership through 8/31/13.
